Biography

Interdisciplinary artist Ithaka Darin Pappas, also known as Ithaka (photographer, sculptor, filmmaker, author, musician, and actor), was raised in Southern California. He has traveled widely, having lived and worked in Japan, Greece, Portugal, Mexico, and Brazil, where he dedicated ten years to creating at his jungle studio, AkahtiLândia, located in the State of São Paulo. In addition to producing short films and videos, Ithaka has released nine albums of original spoken-word and ambient hip hop music. One of his tracks, "Escape From The City of Angels," was included in the feature film The Replacement Killers, directed by Antoine Fuqua. His spoken word poem "So Get Up," initially recorded in Manchester, England, in 1992, is recognized as one of the most remixed vocals in musical history, with renditions by renowned DJs such as Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox, Linear North, David Guetta, Armin Van Buuren, and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. His short-story series, Fishdaddy Chronicles, has been published in surfing magazines worldwide and released as individual mini-books. His photographic subjects in the realms of sports, arts, and entertainment have included notable figures such as Brian Wilson, Chaz Guest (artist), Chuck Liddell, Dr. Dre, Eazy E, Giancarlo Esposito, Ice Cube, Jerome Lagarrique (artist), Keith Morris (Circle Jerks), Lea Thompson, NWA, PM Dawn, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Takashi Murakami, and Teddy Reilly. Additionally, his abstract photographic art and sculpture collection, known as The Reincarnation of a Surfboard, has been exhibited internationally.
