Biography

Jarno Ilmari Hiilloskorpi (b. November 8, 1939 Turku ) was a Finnish actor and theater and film director . Both of his parents were actors. Father Gunnar Hiilloskorpi (1908–1941) played the lead role in the film adaptation of FE Sillanpää's Miehen tie. Jarno Hiilloskorpi attended the predecessor of the Theater College, the Suomen Teatterikoulu, between 1958 and 1961. After his studies, Hiilloskorpi was hired by the Helsinki People's Theater from 1961 to 1963. Other engagements and actions were: Turku City Theater 1963–1965, Helsinki City Theater 1965–1974, Suomen Kansalisteatteri 1974–1989, Tampere Workers' Theater 1989–1993 and 1995–1999. As a theater director, Hiilloskorpi worked at Seinäjoki City Theater 1993–1995 and Riihimäki Theater 1999–2003. Hiilloskorvi's stage roles include Konna's Notes , All the Riches of the World , Dance of Death , Masters Class , Hysteria , Red River and Land of Shadows . Hiilloskorpi has made directorial visits to the Finnish National Opera , Helsinki Summer Theatre, Pyynik Summer Theatre , Tampere Theater , Tampere Komediateatteri and Teatteri Avoimii Ovii, among others . Hiilloskorvi's directing works for the theater include Lupa saina , Katu , Avoi liitto , My Fair Lady , Golden Calf , Three Sisters , The Millionaires of Naples , Suddenly Last Summer and America's Bride . So far, Hiilloskorv's most recent stage direction was in 2008, when he directed Arthur Miller's classic Death of a Traveller, at Kokkola City Theatre . In the early 1960s, Hiilloskorpi played both main and supporting roles in several films , such as Ritva Arvelo's Golden Calf (1961), Maunu Kurkvaara's Private Area (1962), Matti Kassilan's Kaasua, Inspector Palmu (1961) and Ossi Skurnik's only directing work, Into the Darkness (1963). . The extraordinary road and city film directed by Skurnik, starring Hiilloskorpi in his twenties, remained unscreened for decades after its premiere due to unclear copyrights, until it returned to television distribution in 2014. In the 1960s, Jarno Hiilloskorpi was also an early pioneer of the domestic new wave by directing the films Varjostettua valoa (1962) and Rakkaus alkaa aamuyöstä (1966). After the actor's strike that hampered film production in the early 1960s, Jarno Hiilloskorpi left film and switched to a theater career. However, he appeared in dozens of roles on television, in television theater adaptations ( Hannu Salaman's Funeral , George Bernard Shaw's Candida ), in television films ( I'm 17 years old , Köysi , Talvinen tarina ) and series ( Olispa kerran, Sisarukus, Katen haluatte, Teattertuokio, Perhe on plattia , Room for two ). After film and radio work and television roles, Hiilloskorpi has made his life's work in the theater. Back in 1976, he played Yrjö Sirola in the film Luottamus directed by Edvin Laine and Viktor Tregubovich . It has remained Hiilloskorvi's last big screen role for now. Jarno Hiilloskorpi also performed for a long time in Yleisradio's Radio Theater . He played sports commentator Lylya in the Elmo television series Elmo, urheilija (1977) and Elmo – mue maailma (1978) written by Juhani Peltonen .
